Mother: Amelia Hester JENNINGS (1878 - 1963)

William gave his occupation as Printer at the 'Advertiser' Wagga Wagga when he enlisted 1 December 1915 at Wagga Wagga and his next of kin his mother Amelia Hester Ledwell.

William served in the 56th Battalion A.I.F. He departed Sydney on the 'Ceramic' 14 April 1916 and arrived France via Egypt June 1916.

William was wounded in action in France (gunshot wound chest) 20 July 1916.

His father William Ledwell (N74180 b.1864 The Oaks NSW) enlisted a few months later stating he was age 44. He was discharged medically unfit 18 January 1917 in Sydney age 53. He died the following year.

Private William Charles Ledwell was killed in action at Bullecourt France 2 April 1917 age 20.
